General Notes These constitute a general list of requirements for a particular project that is based on the applicable building codes for that project. They typically cover just the most common codes for that type of project but by no means will include all of the codes that will apply to your project. There may be architectural general notes and well as structural ones, even separate ones for each consultant (electrical, mechanical, etc.) that you use to prepare your plans. Nothing that is drawn or written into your plans relieves either the architect, engineer, contractor, or you from having to comply with building codes. There are usually disclaimers to this effect on both the architectural and structural plans. Though most professionals are quite thorough, keep in mind that largely due to the complexity of both today's zoning ordinances and building codes, no set of plans will ever be perfect or cover every possible situation. |
