Assessor's Map

This is a map of your property lines, which will usually include the length of each line along with the survey coordinates of each line.  A copy of this may have been included in your deed.  Otherwise, some jurisdictions have these available for download online.  Check with the City and County Links Page to help track that down.

There are always disclaimers on these maps as to accuracy, but generally the survey coordinates and property line lengths will be correct, which, if accurately plotted, will provide a good place to start.  Computer CAD programs can come in very handy for this with parcels that are anything but a simple rectangle in shape.

Sometimes, especially for older parcels, or ones that have been subdivided or had lot line adjustments made over the years, it may require further research.  At some point you may even have to hire a licensed surveyor to re-survey your property but this is generally pretty rare.
