Architectural Review Committee (ARC)

For residential projects, if you live in a Home Owner's Association, you may have your own ARC that will be the ones responsible for this review.  If not, or for commercial projects, then typically this will be handled in the review of your plans by the Planning Department.

Each jurisdiction will normally have some kind of committee made up of localArchitectural Review Committee professionals with some experience in the design field (though this is not always the case) that form the ARC.  Most smaller residential projects are not required to go through this review unless they are in a special overlay zone that requires it.

Most multi-family, commercial, and public buildings will be subjected to review by an ARC.  Sometimes this review can be handle in-house by the Planning Department, but other times there may be a Public Hearing in conjunction with this review.

Check with your local jurisdiction to see if this may be required for your project and for the requirements and procedures necessary.
